Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Internally, LEAPS WG3 coordinates some (mostly facility-funded) activity through various topical Special Interest Groups. One goal of such SIGs is to continue the dialogue and coordination started during (time-limited) projects.
Following the RDA model, WG3 work is organised in Special Interest Groups or SIGs. A SIG is a group of people from different PaN facilities, working together on a particular topic of common interest. The SIGs have defined targets and report progress back to the WG3 meetings. More details on what SIGs are can be found in "What is a SIG?".
The current list of SIGs is the following:
AI/ML active
Coordinator: Markus Janousch (PSI)
- Mandate: This SIG is focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) within the context of the PaN facilities. This includes facility operations and supporting AI/ML applications that depend on data obtained from PaN facilities.

Direct DOI Data Access (D3A) active
Coordinator: Paul Millar (DESY)
- Mandate: The D3A SIG will solve the problem of how an agent can “access” the files of a dataset knowing only the DOI and without any human interaction. This requires that there is a machine actionable description of the dataset that some agent can acquire, knowing only the DOI. This description should allow the agent to download the complete dataset or an arbitrary subset of the files in the dataset.
